Box Score 2 Pitt-Johnstown completed a four-game sweep over Gannon University on Sunday with a 7-5 victory in game one and a 4-2 come-from-behind win in game two to clinch the western division's No. 3 seed for Wednesday's PSAC Tournament opening round. The Mountain Cats wrapped-up the regular season at 22-22 overall and 17-11 in conference-play.
Pitt-Johnstown will open its first PSAC Tournament against Bloomsburg University, the second seed in the East, on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler.
In the opener, Pitt-Johnstown scored four runs in the top of the fourth and built a 7-2 advantage after three innings on its way to the 7-2 victory.
The Mountain Cats started the game with five straight hits, including RBI singles from
Jake Warner and
Jake Stern, and a run producing double from
Kyle Morrow to highlight the four run first inning.
Nate Negri and Stern each drove in runs in the second inning to increase it 6-0.
Gannon cut it to 7-3 in the sixth, before adding two more runs in the seventh, but Pitt-Johnstown reliever
Elliott Chamberlain was able to work out of the jam and preserve the win.
Brett Marabito and Warner each had three hits, an RBI and scored a run, while Stern drove in a pair, and
Matt McGhee collected two hits for the Mountain Cats.
Nate Pope earned the win after pitching two innings in relief of starter
Rylan Schnably. Pope allowed one run on three hits. He also walked one and struck out four. Schnably pitched the first two innings and held the Golden Knights to just one run on two hits.
In the nightcap, Pitt-Johnstown erased a one-run deficit with by scoring three runs in the top of the seventh to complete the sweep with a 4-2 victory.
After Gannon took a 2-1 lead with a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Mountain Cats loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh on
Ernesto Rizzitano and Negri singles, and a Warner walked. Morrow followed with an infield single that scored Rizzitano, and Stern drove in Negri and Warner with a single to left field.
Stern drove in three runs, while Rizzitano and Negro each had two hits for Pitt-Johnstown.
Tyler Black picked-up the win in relief and improved to 2-0. Black allowed the Gannon run in the sixth, but earned the win after the Mountain Cats regained the lead in the seventh.
Andrew Keirn pitched a scoreless seventh for Pitt-Johnstown to record his second save of the year.
Gannon closed out its season at 15-29 overall and 10-18 in the PSAC West.
