Eric Kinsey's (16th season) Mountain Cats have been picked to finish 12th in the PSAC by the conferences coaches when the 2015 preseason poll was released on Tuesday...
(Full PSAC Release)Defending PSAC champions and 2014 Atlantic Regional finalist Mercyhurst has been selected to win the league's title for the second consecutive season.
Pitt-Johnstown, which looks to rebound from a difficult 2014 season, returns seven starters, including senior forward
Matt Kinney (2 goals, 4 points). However, the Mountain Cats must replace their top-three leading scorers in
Mike Mercea (6 goals, 12 points),
Colin Michalski (3 goals, 6 points), and
Mike Doller (2 goals, 1 assist, 5 points.).
Mercyhurst was 10-1 in conference-play last year and won its second PSAC Championship in three years. PSAC Championship MVP and PSAC Offensive Athlete of the Year Jack Watson returns for Mercyhurst, as does Second-Team All-PSAC performer Richard Vanhorne. This year, the Lakers, ranked ninth in the NSCAA Division II Poll, will be under the guidance of first year head coach Nenad Vidakovic. Vidakovic has been as assistant at Merchyhurst since 2005.
West Chester is picked second in the poll. The Golden Rams were the lone PSAC team to defeat Mercyhurst last year and return two Second-Team All-PSAC players in Matt Palmer and Miguel Ross. In addition, West Chester also returns the reigning PSAC Freshman of the Year Alex Lean.
Seton Hill is selected third in the 12-team poll, which matches last year's finish for the Griffins. Seton Hill finished 2014 on a hot streak, dropping only one of its final 10 regular season games. Two Second-Team All-PSAC players return for the Griffins in midfielder Joe Smith and defender Harrison Howes.
