Volleyball Downs Seton Hill, 3-1, to Reach PSAC Semifinals

3725Led by Marissa Erminio's match-high 15 kills, the third-seeded Lady Cat volleyball team rebounded from a first set loss to defeat sixth-seeded Seton Hill University, 3-sets-to-1 in Tuesday's PSAC Tournament Quarterfinals in the Sports Center.  Pitt-Johnstown, 23-8 on the year, advances to take on the winner of the Edinboro/IUP match in Friday semifinals at Gannon University.
 
After dropping the first set 25-21, the Lady Cats stormed back with convincing 25-19, 25-10, and 25-16 wins to earn their spot in the semifinals.
 
Seton Hill used an 8-2 run to build a 12-6 first set lead on Jillian Livorse. Wierman's kill got Pitt-Johnstown to within three at 12-9, but the Griffins pushed it out to 15-10, then matched their largest lead of the set at 19-13 on Cassie Hausfeld service ace.  The Lady Cats battled back to cut it 21-20 on another Wierman kill.  Seton Hill then scored the next three points, before finishing the 25-21 win on a Pitt-Johnstown service error.
 
The Lady Cats bounced back and led wire-to-wire in a 25-19 second set victory to tie the match.  Kendall Mahony's kill gave Pitt-Johnstown a 10-4 lead to start.  Seton Hill narrowed it three on several occasions, before Livorse's kill made it 16-14.  However, Pitt-Johnstown regained control and extended it to 23-17 on Erminio's kills and ended the set on Erminio's eighth kill of the night.
 
Pitt-Johnstown held the momentum and dominated the third set.  The Lady Cats scored the first four points, then extended it to double digits at 14-4 on two straight Seton Hill attack errors.  Pitt-Johnstown scored five straight points on Mahony's serve, including a service ace that gave the Lady Cats their largest lead of the set at 23-8, en route to a 25-9 win.
 
The Lady Cats did it again in the fourth set.  This time, a service ace from Roman put Pitt-Johnstown up 7-3 and the Lady Cats never looked back.  A kill by Anna Johns, followed by a Seton Hill error made 16-10.  Pitt-Johnstown built to 21-12 on Brehl's kill, before securing the 25-16 victory and a spot in the conference tournament semifinals on a Griffins' ball handling error.
 
Erminio's 15 kills, two blocks, and three digs led three Pitt-Johnstown players who finished in double figures in kills. Brehl finished with 13 kills, five blocks, and 13 digs, while Wierman had 11 kills and 16 digs.  The Lady Cats also got seven kills, three blocks, and a pair of aces from Mahony.
 
Allison Mondorff collected a match-high 45 set assists and 16 digs, and Devan Orr tallied three aces and 17 digs.  Roman also had two aces and eight digs.
 
Seton Hill, which fell to 19-13 overall, was led by Hausfield's eight kills, three blocks, and 10 digs, and Leah Bisignani's eight kills and one block.
