Pitt-Johnstown Announces 2017-18 Women's Basketball Recruits

"We are extremely excited with our 2017-18 recruiting class," Coach Drahos said.  "It is a group of talented individuals that play hard and love to compete.  We are expecting big things from them throughout their careers at Pitt-Johnstown."
 
Maddie Shanahan     Freshman      Forward     6'1"     West Chester, Pa./Unionville High School
      Maddie Shanahan was a three-year letter-winner and three-time All-ChesMont Conference selection at Unionville High School where she averaged over 11 points and six rebounds per game for her career.  As a sophomore, Shanahan was a second-team all-conference choice after averaging 11 points and five rebounds per game.  The following two seasons, Shanahan garnered First-Team All-ChesMont honors after averaging 11.5 points and 8.5 rebounds as a junior and 12 points and 8.0 rebounds as a senior.  Following the 2016-17 season, Shanahan was named to the Pennsylvania Terrific 25 Team.
      In addition, Shanahan earned a spot on the All-District Team       following her senior season.
      Shanahan is the daughter of Jerry and Kristen Shanahan.  She was coached by Fred Ellzy at Unionville High School.
 
 
Ashley Dean        Freshman        Guard        5'9"        Harrisburg, Pa / Trinity High School
      Ashley Dean, a four-year letter-winner in basketball and a two-year letter-winner in cross country at Trinity High School, averaged 13.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 2.5 steals per game as a senior and was named the Most Valuable Player at the 2017 Roundball Showcase, Capital Area vs. Pennsylvania Girls, All-Star Game.  Dean was a two-time Carlisle Sentinel Second-Team All-Star selection, a Second-Team Mid-Penn Capital Division All-Star, and an Honorable Mention Patriot-News Girls Area All-Star.  Dean, who posted a career-high 24 points against West Perry High School in 2016-17, guided her team to 2014-15 PIAA State Tournament appearance and a pair of District 3 Playoff appearances.
      In the classroom, Dean was a member of the Bishop Lawrence National Honor Society,
      Dean is the daughter of Adrian Dean, Sr. and Tawana Dean.  She was coached by Kristi Britten at Trinity High School.
 
 
Alexis Harris    Junior    Guard    5'7"     Atlantic City, NJ / Charter-Tech Performing Arts H.S.
      Alexis Harris transferred to Pitt-Johnstown prior to the 2017-18 season after averaging 15.0 points and 5.0 assists per game in two seasons at Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, IA.  Harris earned First-Team NCJAA Academic and Athletic honors and led her team to a spot in the NCJAA playoffs.
      At Charter-Tech Performing Arts High School, Harris was named First-Team East & West after averaging 17.0 points and 5.1 assists per game as a senior in 2014-15.  Harris, her team's Most Valuable Player Award recipient, graduated in the Top-10% of her class and was the CEO of the Television and Film Department.
      Harris is the daughter Andrea Sawyer.  She was coached by Chris Ford, Jr. at Charter-Tech Performing Arts High School and Jerry Jerome at Southeastern Community College.
 
 
Mia Oterson     Freshman     Guard     5'5"     Indiana, Pa. / Marion Center High School
      Mia Oterson was a four-year letterman at Marion Center High School where she averaged 10.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 3.7 steals per game over her high school career.  She was a three-time Heritage Conference All-Star who posted career-highs of 21 points against Northern Cambria High School and 10 assists against Blairsville High School.
      Oterson was a 2016 U.S. Junior National All-Star selection and the Most Valuable Player at the Indiana Optimist All-Star Game and the 2016 Punxsutawney High School Classic.
      In addition to basketball, Oterson was a three-time All-Heritage Conference choice and a 2016 District 6 All-Star as a volleyball player and an all-conference selection in track and field.
      Oterson, a member of the Academic Honor Roll from seventh through 12th grades, is the daughter of Michael and Maria Oterson.  She was coached by Julie Horner at Marion Center High School.
 
 
          Pitt-Johnstown will open the 2017-18 season at the Winston-Salem State (NC) University Tip-Off Tournament on November 11-12.  Pitt-Johnstown will play its first home games and open PSAC-play with conference doubleheaders with the Mountain Cats against Bloomsburg University on November 18 and East Stroudsburg University on November 19 in the Sports Center.
