Nick Novak to Play in Second Straight "The Tournament" to Fight Pancreatic Cancer

344Former Pitt-Johnstown men's basketball standout and European professional Nick Novak has been selected to play in his second consecutive "The Tournament" to fight against Pancreatic Cancer beginning June 29 and running through August 3.  The Regional Rounds run from July 29 through the finals on August 3 will be broadcast on the ESPN Networks… (Sideline Cancer Site)(The Basketball Tournament Site)
 
Novak, a member of team Sideline Cancer out of Bradenton, Fla. is led by former Mountain Cat assistant Coach Billy Clapper. will team up with form NCAA Division I players that include Arizona State's Jermaine Marshall and Indiana/George Washington's Maurice Creek.
 
The Sideline Cancer team was started by the Cathy Griffith and the Griffith Family Foundation/Sideline Cancer Youth Initiative that engages students to use their entrepreneurial and philanthropic ideas to transform the outcome of Pancreatic Cancer.
 
"The Basketball Tournament" is an annual 5-on-5, single elimination basketball tournament.  Anyone 18 or older can enter a team and play.  In 2018, 72 teams broken down into five regions will play for a winner-takes-all prize of $2 million.
 
Novak, a native of Murrysville, Pa. and a graduate of Franklin Regional, was a four-year starter and Pitt-Johnstown from 2009-2013.  Novak ended his Mountain Cat career as the school's second all-time leading scorer with 2,023 career points.  Novak also broke the Pitt-Johnstown career record for assists with 545 and ranks third on the career assists average list at 4.7 assists per game.  In addition's his 759 career field goals and 86.1% (464-539) are also Pitt-Johnstown records.
