Fogle, Lantz and Brentzel Finish Second to Lead 13 Place Winners at W&J Open

David Fogle (125 lbs.) (Summerhill, Pa.), Gary Lantz (165 lbs.) (Delta, Pa.) and A.J. Brentzel (184 lbs.) (Irwin, Pa.) all earned runner-up finishes to lead a group of 13 Mountain Cat wrestlers who placed in the top-six at Saturday's season-opening Washington & Jefferson Collegiate Open.
Fogle had a fall and three decision victories to start the tournament, before being pinned at 4:47 by West Virginia University's Shane Young in the chamionship match at 125 lbs., while Lantz, who finished at 4-1, suffered a 5-1 loss in the title bout at 157 lbs. to Penn State University's Nich Fischer. At 184 lbs., Brentzel started with three straight wins, but lost a 10-0 major decision to West Virginia's Matt Ryan in the finals.
2010 National Qualifier Ryan Link (Cresson, Pa.) posted a 6-2 record and earned a third-place finish at 133 lbs. Also at 133 lbs., Cory Bonura (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Doug Maiorana (Lewisburg, Pa.) placed fifth and sixth, respectively.
In addition, Head Coach Pat Pecora got fourth-place finishes from Nathan Link (149 lbs.) (Cresson, Pa.), Zach Lundgren (165 lbs.) (DuBois, Pa.), Steve Makin (174 lbs.) (Portage, Pa.), Jon Moore (197 lbs.) (Leechburg, Pa.) and 2010 All-American Chris Dempsey (HWT.) (Sewickley, Pa.) and fifth-place finishes from David Cawley (141 lbs.) (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Petros Georgilas (197 lbs.) (McKees Rocks, Pa.).
The Mountain Cats travel to West Liberty (WV) University to kick-off the dual meet schedule on Friday, before opening the home schedule with a dual against Ohio Valley (WV) University on Friday, December 3 at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
