Joanna Haupt's fourth-seeded Pitt-Johnstown women's volleyball team will face eighth-seeded Edinboro University in Friday's PSAC Tournament Semifinals at 5 p.m. at Gannon University's Hammermill Center.
The winner advances to take on the winner of the No. 2 Gannon/No. 6 West Chester match in Saturday's championship match at 7 p.m. and the tournament champion earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Volleyball Championship Tournament.
Pitt-Johnstown, 24-8, advanced to Friday's semifinals with a 25-20, 25-19, 27-25 sweep over fourth-seeded Shippensburg in Tuesday's quarterfinals match in the Sports Center.
Marissa Erminio finished with 10 kills, 16 digs, and a pair of blocks while
Maura Brehl added 10 kills and two blocks. Pitt-Johnstown also got eight kills and 12 digs from
Cambria Wierman.
Edinboro upset top-seeded Indiana University (PA) in five sets to reach the semifinals. The Fighting Scots, who improved to 22-9, defeated the Crimson Hawks 25-22, 21-25, 25-20, 16-25, 17-15 behind Challen Litwiler's 23 kills and Cierah Jackson's 21 kills.
The Mountain Cats and Edinboro opened the 2017 PSAC schedule on September 22 in the Sports Center and Pitt-Johnstown held on for a 16-14 win in the fifth set to secure a 3-sets-to-2 victory. Litwiler and Jackson each had a dozen kills to lead Edinboro, while
Noelle Carota finished with nine kills and
Kendall Mahony,
Caitlin Vrabel, and
Maura Brehl all had eight kills for Pitt-Johnstown.
