Mountain Cats Win 92-83 at Davis & Elkins

Danny Branch (Washington, D.C.) scored 21 points to lead five Mountain Cats who scored in double-figures in a 92-83 win at Davis & Elkins (WV) College, Wednesday night. Pitt-Johnstown improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the WVIAC.
Bill Luther's (Gibsonia, Pa.) three-pointer midway through the first half gave the Mountain Cats their first lead of the night at 17-16. Another Luther three-pointer late in the first half pushed the lead to nine points, before Pitt-Johnsotwn took a 44-36 halftime advantage.
Davis & Elkins battled back to go up 51-50 three minutes into the second half, but Patrick Grubbs' (Turtle Creek, Pa.) basket in the paint the next trip down the floor gave the Mountain Cats a lead they would never give up.
Two free-throws by Nick Novak (Murrysville, Pa.) with under a minute to play gave Pitt-Johnstown its largest lead of the night at 12 points, before the Mountain Cats cruised to the nine-point victory.
Branch finished with 21 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Novak added 19 points three rebounds and three assists. Jordan Miller (Vinco, Pa.) scored 15 points, including 8-10 from the free-throw line, and Luther collected 14 points and four rebounds. Grubbs rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points and seven rebounds.
The Mountain Cats shot 57.4% from the floor, with six three-pointers. Pitt-Johnstown was also 24-29 from the free-throw line and out-rebounded the Senators 37-32. Davis & Elkins shot 45.7% from the floor, 11-28 from behind the three-point line and just 8-16 from the charity stripe.
Malik Tinsley's 21 points and game-high nine rebounds led the way for the Senators, who slipped to 0-1 overall and 0-1 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats host the University of Charleston (WV) for a WVIAC game on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center, before breaking for the Thanksgiving holiday and traveling to West Virginia Wesleyan College for another conference game on Tuesday, November 30.
