Dwight Hines Named MVP as Mountain Cats Repeat as East Stroudsburg Rotary Classic Champions

Mountain Cat senior guard Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) poured in a game-high 23 points Saturday night and earned Most Valuable Player honors in leading Pitt Johnstown to a 69-62 victory over East Stroudsburg University and its second consecutive championship at the East Stroudsburg Panaia-Soloway Rotary Pocono Classic. With the win, Head Coach Bob Rukavina's the Mountain Cats have won four straight games and improved to 8-2.
Hines, who scored 14 points in Friday's opening round win over Seton Hill University, added 23 points on 9-16 shooting from the field, including three three-pointers and a pair of free-throws. Hines also grabbed five rebounds and made two steals, while junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) had 13 points and 11 rebounds on his way to being named to the All-Tounament Team. Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) and Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) each scored eight points, and Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa.) chipped in five points and six rebounds. Senior guard J.J. Schumacher (Castle Shannon, Pa.) had five points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals in the win.
The Mountain Cats jumped out to a 13-point lead with 8:41 to play in the first half, before going into the locker room with a 37-28 halftime lead. Pitt Johnstown came out in the second half and increased the lead to 17 points with 7:04 to play in the game and was able to withstand a Warrior comeback and hold on for a seven-point victory.
Pitt Johnstown continued its good shooting from the field, finishing the game shooting 48.2% (27-56), including 47.1% (8-17) from three-point range. The Mountain Cats held the Warriors to just 35.2% (19-54) shooting from the field and 6-19 (31.6%) from behind the three-point line.
Ronald Louis led four East Stroudsburg players who scored in double figures with 18 points. Andy Heimbach (14 points), Channon Easley (11 points) and Josh Wentz (10 points) also scored in double figures, while Easley pulled down 11 rebounds for the Warriors, now 4-2 on the season.
The Mountain Cats will break for finals and the holiday season, before traveling to the Wheeling Jusuit University Tournament on December 29-30. Pitt Johnstown will take on West Liberty State (WV) College on December 29 and Wheeling Jesuit on December 30.
