Dwight Hines Pours in 31 Points, But West Liberty State Defeats Pitt Johnstown, 101-94

Senior guard Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) scored a career-high 31 points, but it wasn't enough, as West Liberty State (WV) College dealt Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cat basketball team suffered a 101-94 loss in Friday's first round of the Wheeling Jesuit University Tournament. Pitt Johnstown, 8-3 on the season, will take on Wheeling Jesuit in the tournament's final round on Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
Hines wrapped up the night shooting 14-23 from the field and 3-9 from behind the three-point line, while junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) added 21 points on 7-11 shooting from the field and 7-8 from the free-throw line. Gilliam also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds. Senior guard J.J. Schumacher (Castle Shannon, Pa.) chipped in 13 points and a game-high eight assists in the loss.
The Mountain Cats shot the ball well from the field, ending the game shooting 52.8% (38-72) and 10-14 (71.4%) from the free-throw line. However, the Hilltoppers connected on 48.4% (31-64) on their shots, including 10-24 (41.7%) from three-point range and 29-32 (90.6%) from the free-throw line. Pitt Johnstown made eight three-pointers, but were unable to make up the difference from the free-throw line, as West Liberty State had 18 more attempts from the line.
Shane Maynard's game-high 41 points led four Hilltoppers who scored in double figures. Dan Binggeli (22 points), Ben Howlett (20 Points) and Chris Banal (13 points) also scored in double figures to help West Liberty State improve to 7-2 on the season.
