Mountain Cats Fall to Hosts at Wheeling Jesuit Tournament

Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cat basketball team suffered a 73-71 loss to the host school in the final round of Saturday's Wheeling Jesuit Tournament. Senior guard Dwight Hines' (Aliquippa, Pa.) 17 points led three Pitt Johnstown players who scored in double figures. The Mountain Cats are now 8-4 on the year.
Pitt Johnstown built a 40-32 halftime lead, but Wheeling Jesuit battled back to outscore the Mountain Cats, 41-31 in the second half.
Hines followed-up his 31-point performance in Friday's first round with 17 points on 7-17 shooting, including 3-7 from behind the thre-point line. Hines also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, dished out two assists and had two steals. Junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) scored 16 points (10-13 free-throws) and had six rebounds, while sophomore guard Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 13 points and five rebounds. Sophomore center Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa.) chipped in nine points and four rebounds, and sophomore forward Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) pulled down six rebounds in the loss.
With his 17 points, Hines is now 66 points shy of becoming the Mountain Cats' 17th 1,000-point scorer. Hines is also ranked 10th on the Mountain Cat All-Time Assist List with 233, while senior forward J.J. Schumacher (Castle Shannon, Pa.) is one assist shy of tying Joey Tutchstone (2003-06) for fifth on the assist list. Schumacher now has 330 career assists after dishing out three against Wheeling Jesuit.
The Mountain Cats finished the game shooting 43.9% (25-57) from the field, 46.2% (6-13) from three-point range and 15-19 from the free-throw line. The Cardinals were 26-60 (43.3%) from the floor and 6-25 (24.0%) from behind the three-point line. Wheeling Jesuit also made 15 of its 20 free-throws.
Colin Howard's game-high 22 points off the bench led Wheeling Jesuit. Maqsood Harrington scored 11 points and King Miner had 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Cardinals, now 6-2.
Pitt Johnstown travels to Shippensburg University on Wednesday, before retuning home to start a four-game home stand against Penn State-McKeesport on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
