PITT-JOHNSTOWN MOUNTAIN CATS

Men's Basketball

Men's Basketball Falls, 78-69, at Shippensburg

01/03/2007

Sophomore center Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored 13 points to lead three Mountain Cats who scored in double figures, but it was enough, as Pitt Johnstown suffered a 78-69 road loss at Shippensburg University, Wednesday night. Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cats dropped to 8-5 on the year.
Goldcamp was 6-10 from the field with five rebounds and three blocked shots, while guards J.J. Schumacher (Castle Shannon, Pa.) and Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) each had 11 points. Davis also pulled down six rebunds. Coach Rukavina also got nine points from sophomore forward Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) and seven points and eight rebounds from junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD).
With his three assists, Schumacher moved into fifth place on the Mountain Cat All-Time Assist List with 333. Schumacher is now 63 rebounds shy of tying Tony Mazonkey (1975-79) for fourth place on the list. Senior guard Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) scored four points to give him 938 for his career. Hines needs 62 points to become the 18th Mountain Cat to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
Coach Rukavina's Mountain Cats fell behind 38-26 at halftime and were unable to erase the deficit, despite outscoring the Red Raiders, 43-40 in the second half.
Pitt Johnstown shot 45.2% (28-62) from the field, 27.3% (6-22) from three-point range and 50.0% (7-14) from the free-throw line, while Shippensburg ended the night shooting 28-56 (50.0%) from the floor, 6-16 (37.5%) from behind the three-point line and 16-25 (64.0%) from the free-throw line.
Chuck Davis' game-high 21 points led four Shippensburg Players who scored in double figures. Jamal Williams (13 points), Greg Wojdowski (12 points) and Todd Johnson (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Red Raiders, who have won five straight games and improved to 8-7.
Pitt Johnstown returns home to start a four-game home stand beginning with Penn State-McKeesport on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center. The Mountain Cats will also host Indiana University (PA) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
