01/10/2007

Sophomore center Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored a game-high 19 points on a night that saw every Mountain Cat on the roster score at least one basket in a lopsided, 89-61, victory over visiting Indiana University (PA), Wednesday night in the Sports Center. With the win, Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cats snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 9-5.
Goldcamp, who came off of Coach Rukavina's bench, finished the night 8-14 from the field and 3-6 from the free-throw line. Goldcamp also grabbed nine rebounds, while senior guard Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) and junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) each scored 14 points. Sophomore guard Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) rounded out the Mountain Cats who scored in double figures with 11 points. Davis dished out a game-high six assists and made four steals, and red-shirt freshman guard Andy Byer (Tire Hill, Pa.) chipped in nine points on 3-4 shooting from behind the three-point line. Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) collected eight points and six rebounds, and freshman forward Steve Heidenthal (Clymer, Pa.) pulled down six rebounds in the win.
With his 14 points, Hines moved to within 48 points of becoming the 17th Mountain Cat to reach the 1,000-point plateau. In addition, Gilliam, who was 7-9 from the field, eclipsed the 900-point mark for his career. Gilliam, only a junior, now has 909 points.
The Mountain Cats opened the game with a 21-9 run over the first eight minutes, before taking a 45-27 halftime lead. Pitt Johnstown increased the lead to 78-43 with 6:36 to play in the game, before going on to the 28-point victory.
Pitt Johnstown shot 56.7 (38-67) from the field and 35.3% (6-17) from three-point range, while holding the Crimson Hawks to just 22-55 (40.0%) shooting from the floor and 7-20 (35.0%) from behind the three-point line. Pitt Johnstown finished 7-10 (70.0%) from the free-throw line. IUP was just 10-26 (38.5%) from the line. The Mountain Cat defense also created 19 turnover and made 12 steals.
Pitt Johnstown continues a three-game home stand on Saturday against Concord (WV) University on Alumni Day as part of a doubleheader with the Lady Cat basketball team. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 3:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 5:00 p.m.
