Mountain Cats Hold Off Concord for, 100-88, Alumni Day Win

Sophomore guard Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored a career-high 27 points to help the Mountain Cat men's basketball team hold off a second half Concord (WV) University rally for a 100-88 win on Alumni Day, Saturday evening in the Sports Center. Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cats improved to 10-5 on the year.
Pitt Johnstown took a 44-37 halftime lead, before extending that lead to 18 points with 13:34 to play in the second half. That's when the Mountain Lions began their comeback. Concord cut the lead to 81-77 with 7:05 to play, but the Mountain Cats were able to respond and outscore the Mountain Lions 19-11 over the last seven minutes to secure the victory.
Davis finished 10-15 from the field with six three-pointers and a free-throw. Davis also grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists, while sophomore forward Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) added a career-high 20 points on 8-11 shooting from the floor and 4-5 from the free-throw line. Pitt Johnstown also got 19 points from junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) and 18 points and seven rebounds from sophomore center Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Tullis also pulled down six rebounds, and senior guard J.J. Schumacher (Castle Shannon, Pa.) dished out a game-high nine assists.
Senior guard Dwight Hine (Aliquippa, Pa.) scored seven points to give him 959 for his career. With 41 points, Hines will become the 17th Mountain Cat to reach the 1,000-point mark. Gilliam now has 928 points. He is 72 points away from the 1,000-point milestone.
The Mountain Cats ended the night shooting 59.1% (39-66) from the field, 52.6% (10-18) from three-point range and 75.0% (12-16) from the free-throw line. Concord was 34-62 (54.8%) from the field, 9-20 (45.0%) from behind the three-point line and 11-16 from the free-throw line.
Tyrone Anderson's game-highs of 41 points on 16-21 shooting and 13 rebounds led the way for Concord. Brian Foster added 21 points for the Mountain Lions, now 4-7 on the season.
Pitt Johnstown wraps-up a three-game home stand on on Monday when Penn State-New Kensington visits the Sports Center for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
