Dwight Hines Eclipses 1,000-Point Mark in Mountain Cats' 86-82 Overtime win at Mansfield

Senior guard Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) scored 23 points to become the 17th Mountain Cat to reach the 1,000-point plateau in Wednesday's 86-82 overtime win at Mansfield University. Junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) poured in a game-high 31 points to move to within four points of joining the 1,000-point scorer's club. With the win, Pitt Johnstown improved to 13-6.
Hines, who now has 1,0005 career points, finished 9-16 from the field with five three-pointers, while Gilliam was 10-13 from the field and 11-12 from the free-throw line. Hines also grabbed six rebounds and dished out five assists, and Gilliam pulled down a game-high seven rebounds and made four steals. Head Coach Bob Rukavina also got 12 points from sophomore guard Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and 11 points, four rebounds and three blocks from sophomore forward Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) Senior guard J.J. Schumacher (Castle Shannon, Pa.) had six rebounds and a game-high eight assists.
After falling behind 23-9 to start the game and 40-36 at halftime, Pitt Johnstown came back in the second half and took its first lead, 41-40, with 19 minutes to play. The teams battled back-and-forth and went to overtime with the scored tied, 72-72. In the overtime, Davis hit three-pointers and Gilliam was 4-4 from the free-throw line to lead Pitt Johnstown to the 86-82 win.
The Mountain Cats wrapped up the game shooting 48.4% (30-62) from the field, 44.0% (11-25) from three-point range and 88.2% (15-17) from the free-throw line. The Mounties shot 29-65 (44.6%) from the field, 13-25 (52.0%) from behind the three-point line and 11-15 (73.3%) from the free-throw line.
Chris Greene's 29 points, including 6-7 from three-point range, led Mansfield. Jon Hampton (17 points), Kevin Hill (15 points) and Terrance Williams (10 points) also scored in double figures for the Mounties, who dropped to 6-11 on the season.
Pitt Johnstown returns to the Sports Center to host Columbia Union (MD) College on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and Penn State-Greater Allegheny, formerly Penn State-McKeesport, on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The PSU-Greater Allegheny game was originally scheduled for January 6, but was postponed until January 30.
