Mountain Cats Improve to 6-0 in WVIAC With 78-65 Win Over Seton Hill

Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cat basketball team built an 18-point first half lead, before going on to a, 78-65, win over visiting Seton Hill University, Thursday night int he Sports Center. Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) had game-highs of 23 points and 10 rebounds, and Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 21 points and eight rebounds to help Pitt Johnstown improve to 9-3 overall and 6-0 in the WVIAC.
Pitt Johnstown jumped on the Griffins early, building a, 26-8, lead with 11:19 to play in the first half, before taking a, 38-32, halftime lead. Seton Hill battled back to cut the lead to, 48-47, at the 11:09 mark of the second half, but the Mountain Cats outscored the Griffins, 30-18, to close out the game and secure the 13-point win.
Gilliam, who passed Devlin Herring (1994-98) and moved into fourth place on the Mountain Cat All-time Scoring List, finished the night shooting 8-15 from the field and 7-8 from t he free-throw line. Gilliam also dished out four assists and made one steal. Gilliam's 1,368 points are five shy of Chris Rhames (1995-98) for third place on the scoring list.
Davis had 21 points on 6-11 shooting from the field, 1-3 from three-point range and a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line. Davis also collected five assists and four steals. Coach Rukavina also got 10 points and three rebounds from Matt Ionadi (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) chipped in nine points and five rebounds, while Danny Branch (Washington D.C.) chipped in nine points and four rebounds off the bench. William Sharpe (Johnstown, Pa.) added a game-high six assists in the victory.
The Mountain Cats shot 47.4% (27-57) from the field and an impressive 91.3% (21-23) from the free-throw line. Seton Hill made 26-53 (49.1%) of its shots from the field and 10-18 (55.6%) from the free-throw line. Pitt Johnstown also held a 35-27 advantage in rebounding, including a 14-10 edge on the offensive end.
Cody Boone's 17 points off of the bench led four Griffins who scored in double figures. Jordan Thomas (14 points), Kellen Holmes (12 points) and Emmanuel Jackson (11 points) also finished in double figures for the Griffins, who fell to 3-10 overall and 2-4 in league play.
The Mountain Cats travel to the University of Charleston (WV) for a WVIAC game on Saturday, before returning home to begin a three-game home stand starting with Bluefield State (WV) College as part of a doubleheader with the Lady Cats on Thursday. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
