Men's Basketball Earns 72-63 Win at IUP

Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cat basketball team made it five straight wins and improved to 16-6 on the year with a 72-63 win at Indiana University (PA), Saturday afternoon. Sophomore guard Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored 16 points to lead five Pitt Johnstown players who scored in double figures.
Davis was 6-8 from the field with three three-pointers, while senior guard Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) and junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) each added 13 points. Senior guard J.J. Schumacher (Castle Shannon, Pa.) and sophomore center Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa.) rounded out the duoble figure scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Gilliam grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, and sophomore forward Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) and Schumacher dished out five assists apiece in the victory.
With his 13 points, Hines tied Matt Lushko (1992-97) for 13th place on the Mountain Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,046 points. Hines is now three points shy of tying Carlos Cogsdell (2001-05) for 12th place on the scoring list, while Gilliam moved to within one point of Josue Nieves (1997-00) for 17th place on the scoring list. Gilliam now has 1,022 career points.
Pitt Johnstown opened with a 25-10 run over the first eight minutes of the first half, before taking a 42-29 halftime lead. The Mountain Cats increased the lead to 53-33 with 17:51 to play, before IUP battled back to cut the lead to eight points with 4:45 left. However, that was as close as the Crimson Hawks would get, before Pitt Johnstown earned the nine-point win.
The Mountain Cats shot a very impressive 59.2% (29-49) from the field and 41.2% (7-17) from three-point range, while holding IUP to just 25-61 (41.0%) fromt he field and 6-22 (27.3%) from behind the three-point line.
Gerald Brooks' game-highs of 17 points and 12 rebounds led IUP. Piotr Warawko (12 points) and Jordan Shaw (11 points) also scored in double figures for the Crimson Hawks, who dropped to 4-15 on the season.
The Mountain Cats travel to East Region #2-ranked California University (PA) on Wednesday, before beginning a three-game home stand against the Unviersity of the District of Columbia on Saturday, February 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sport Center.
