#20 Mountain Cats Improve to 5-0 With 95-73 Win Over Bloomsburg

Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored a game-high 23 points and Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) added 20 points to lead the #20-ranked Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cat basketball team to a 95-73 victory over Bloomsburg University, Saturday night in the Sports Center. The Mountain Cats stayed unbeaten and improved to 5-0.
The Mountain Cats jumped out to a 17-4 lead four minutes into the game, before increasing the lead 45-20 on Travis King's (Washington, D.C.) layup with 5:36 to play in the first half. Bloomsburg answered with an 11-3 run over the next four minutes to climb within 17 points, before the Mountain Cats took a 52-33 halftime lead. Pitt-Johnstown continued to roll in the second half. Davis' layup at the 10:15 mark gave the Mountain Cats their largest lead of game at 82-48. The Huskies never got closer than the 22-point final deficit.
Davis finished with 23 points on 7-8 shooting from the field, including 2-2 from three-point range and 7-8 from the free-throw line. He also had four rebounds and dished out a game-high eight assists, while Tullis collected 20 points, pulled down five rebounds and blocked two shots. Head coach Bob Rukavina also got 14 points and nine rebounds from Patrick Grubbs (Turtle Creek, Pa.) and 13 points from Matt Ionadi (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Danny Branch (Washington, D.C.) chipped in eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while William Sharpe (Johnstown, Pa.) scored four points, grabbed six rebounds and had seven assists in the victory.
With his 20 points, Tullis climbed from 17th place into 14th place on the Mountain Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,055 points. Tullis is now 23 points shy of Chuck Bradford (1976-80) for 13th place on the scoring list.
The Mountain Cats ended the night shooting 47.4% (36-76) from the field, 26.7% (4-15) from three-point range and 70.4% (19-27) from the free-throw line. Pitt-Johnstown held Bloomsburg to just 39.7% shooting. The Mountain Cats also out rebounded the Huskies 51-37 and forced 20 turnovers.
Ruben Britt scored 21 points and had five rebounds to lead three Huskies who scored in double figures. Larry Webster tallied 17 points and a team-high eight rebounds, and Ronnie Benson rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points. With the loss, Bloomsburg slipped to 2-3 on the year.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Shippensburg University on Monday to begin a stretch of five-straight road games that extend through the holiday break and into the second semester. The Mountain Cats will play their next home game on Jan. 10, when WVIAC rival Fairmont State (WV) University visits the Sports Center for a 7:30 p.m. tip off.
