Mountain Cats Dominate Concord, 86-54

Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) followed Saturday's 34-point performance with 23 points, eight rebounds and six assists to lead the Mountain Cat men's basketball team to a lopsided 86-54 win at Concord (WV) University on Thursday. Pitt-Johnstown raised its overall record oto 10-4 and improved to 6-2 in theWVIAC.
William Sharpe's (Johnstown, Pa.) layup at the 12:42 mark of the first half closed a 20-8 run to start the game for the Mountain Cats. Concord battled back to cut the deficit to 22-19 on Matthew Parker's three-pointer 3:26 later, but Pitt-Johnstown closed out the half by outscoring the Mountain Lions, 19-7 to take a 43-26 halftime lead.
It was more of the same for the Mountain Cats in the second half. Travis King's (Washington, D.C.) layup with 11:18 to play increased the advantage to 62-38. Pitt-Johnstown took its largest lead of the game at 32 points and set the final score on Steve Heidenthal's (Clymer, Pa.) layup with :44 remaining.
Davis led all scorers with 23 points on 6-10 shooting from the field, 3-4 from behind the three-point line and a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line. Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) had 14 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Patrick Grubbs (Turtle Creek, Pa.) tallied 14 points and five rebounds. King finished with nine points, and Heidenthal collected six points and seven rebounds. Andy Byer (Tire Hill, Pa.) and Matt Ionadi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) chipped in seven points apiece, and Sharpe dished out six assists to tie Davis for game-high.
Tullis currently ranks ninth on the Pitt-Johnstown scoring list with 1,207 points. Tullis is 31 points away from Mike Gresik (1981-85) for eighth place on the scoring list. Davis currently stands in 14th place on the Mountain Cat All-Time Scoring List with 1,108 points and eighth on the all-time assist list with 297. Davis needs two points to tie Paul Byer (2002-05) for 13th place place on the scoring list and 34 assists to tie Joey Tutchstone (2003-06) for seventh place on the assists list. Sharpe stands in fifth place on the assist list with 406, just 12 assists shy of J.J. Schumacher (2002-04, 2005-07) for fourth place.
Pitt-Johnstown, shot 56.4% (31-57) from the field, 7-17 from behind the three-point arc and an impressive 17-18 from the charity stripe. The Mountain Cats, who held Concord to just 36.1% shooting for the game, dominated on the boards by outrebounding the Mountain Lions 46-21.
Parker scored 11 points and Cordale Boyd added 10 points for Concord, which lost its 11th straight game and fell to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats travel to Bluefield State (WV) College on Saturday, before hosting a WVIAC doubleheader with the Lady Cats against the University of Charleston (WV) on Monday. The Lady Cats will tip-off at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
