Kyle Goldcamp Tabbed MVP as Mountain Cats Defeat West Liberty State in Finale of Pitt-Johnstown-Tip-Off Classic

Mountain Cat sophomore center Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa.) followed Friday's 19-point, 14-rebound performance by scoring 21 points and grabbing eight rebounds to help lead Pitt-Johnstown to a 96-87 victory over West Liberty State (WV) College in Saturday's final game of the 2006 Pitt-Johnstown/Cummings Trophies & Engraving Tip-Off Classic in the Sports Center. Goldcamp's efforts earned him Most Valuable Player honors and helped the Mountain Cats improve to 2-1.
Goldcamp connected on 10-13 of his field goals and pulled down three of his eight rebounds on the offensive end. Junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) an All-Tournament Team selection, also had a dominating perfromance. Gilliam tied his career-high set last season against Glenville State (WV) College by pouring in 31 points on 11-12 shooting from the field and 9-9 from the free-throw line. Gilliam also grabbed nine rebounds and dished out three assists, while sophomore guard Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored 13 points, had a game-high 11 rebounds and dished out five assists. Head Coach Bob Rukavina also got 10 points, four rebounds and six assists from senior guard J.J. Schumacher (Castle Shannon, Pa.) and nine points and four assists from fellow senior guard Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) in the win.
Pitt-Johnstown jumped out to a 49-35 halftime lead and increased that lead to 21 points with 18:45 to play, before West Liberty State began to chip away at the lead. The Hilltoppers cut it 87-81 with 2:00 left in the game, but that was as close as they would get.
The Mountain Cats got the job done in nearly every aspect of the game. Pitt-Johnstown shot 54.0% (34-63) from the field and an impressive 92.3% (24-26) from the free-throw line, while holding the Hilltoppers to just 40.3% (29-72) shooting from the field. West Liberty also shot well from the free-throw line, making 20 of their 22 attempts (90.9%). In addition, Pitt-Johnstown dominated on the boards by out rebounding West Liberty State, 44-29.
The Hilltoppers were led by Corey McDuffie's game-high 33 points on 11-23 shooting from the field (four three-pointers) and 7-7 from the free-throw line. Shane Maynard added 21 points and Chris Banal collected 13 points for the Hilltoppers, who dropped to 2-1.
In Saturday's first game, the University of the District of Columbia's Charlie Smallwood scored a team-high 15 points to lead the Firebirds to a 66-63 win over Wheeling Jesuit University. Rusty Wooten's 17 points led the way for Wheeling Jesuit.

The Mountain Cats will host West Virginia State University on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling the to Gannon University Gary Miller Classic on Friday and Saturday.
