Chris Gilliam Named to All-Classic Team, But Mountain Cats Fall to Hosts in Title Game of Gannon Gary Miller Classic

The Mountain Cat men's basketball team battled back from a 12-point first half deficit to take a five-point second half lead, but Gannon University erased that lead and went on to defeat Pitt Johnstown, 73-68, in Saturday's championship game of the Gannon Gary Miller Classic. Senior guard Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) scored 21 points and dished out eight assists and junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) added 16 points on his way to being named to the All-Classic Team. Pitt Johnstown is now 4-2.
The Mountain Cats fell behind, 31-19, with 4:51 to play in the first half, before coming back to cut the lead to 38-35 at halftime. Head Coach Bob Rukavina's team came out in the second half on an 8-2 run to take a 45-40 lead with 17:43 to play, but the Golden Knights regained the lead, 49-47, at the 13:24 mark and never gave up that lead.
Hines finished the night 8-17 from the field with three three-point field goals, while Gilliam had 16 points on 8-12 shooting. Gilliam also grabbed four rebounds. Sophomore guard Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) had 12 points and six rebounds, and sophomore center Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa.) chipped in 12 points on 6-7 shooting.
Pitt Johnstown shot a solid 50.9% (29-57) and made six three-pointers, while Gannon connected on 45.3% (24-53) from the field and hit 10 of their 24 three-point attempts. Along with making 10 three-pointers, the Golden Knights also shot 15-21 (71.4%) from the free-throw line, while the Mountain Cats had just six free-throw attempts, making four of the six for 66.7%.
Tyler Stoczynski, an All-Classic Team selection, led Gannon with a game-high 27 points on 10-18 shooting. The Classic's Most Valuable Player Aurimas Truskauskas added 16 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to help the Golden Knights improve to 2-0.

The Mountain Cats travel to West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday, before hosting Penn State-Fayette on Monday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
