Men's Basketball Earns 86-67 Win at West Virginia Wesleyan

Junior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) poured in a game-high 27 points to lead the Mountain Cat basketball team to an 86-67 win at West Virginia Wesleyan, Tuesday night. With the win, Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cats improved to 5-2 on the season.
Gilliam's 27 points on 11-14 shooting from the field and 5-5 from the free-throw line led three Pitt Johnstown players who scored in double figures. Sophomore forward Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) scored 14 points and pulled down five rebounds, and sophomore guard Matt Ionadi (Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 11 points, including three three-pointers to round out the double-figure scorers. Dwight Hines (Aliquippa, Pa.) scored eight points and dished out six assists and Kyle Goldcamp (Pittsburgh, Pa.) chipped in five points and game-highs of nine rebounds and five blocks. Coach Rukavina also got six points apiece from guards J.J. Schumacher (Castle Shannon, Pa.) and Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and nine assists from William Sharpe (Johnstown, Pa.).
The Mountain Cats jumped out to a 42-33 halftime lead on 63.0% (17-27) shooting from the field in the first half. Pitt Johnstown finished the game shooting 58.9% (33-56) from the field and 11-14 from the free-throw line (78.6%). The Mountain Cats also connected on nine three-point field goals and forced 22 West Virginia Wesleyan turnovers.
Andy Chelcher's 19 points and seven rebounds led West Virginia Wesleyan. Dureyea Garnett added 14 points and Rocky Manchin scored 12 points in the loss for the Bobcats, now 1-5 on the year.
The Mountain Cats will host Penn State-Fayette on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
