Mountain Cats Open WVIAC Play With 97-73 Win Over Ohio Valley

Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cats tipped-off their first ever WVIAC conference schedule in fine-fashion with a 97-73 victory over Ohio Valley (WV) University, Monday night in the Sports Center. Junior guard Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) poured in a career-high 31 points to lead four Mountain Cats who scored in double-figures. Pitt Johnstown is now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the WVIAC.
Davis's long three-pointer at the first half buzzer gave Pitt Johnstown a 45-42 lead. The Mountain Cats came out in the second half on a 31-15 run to increase the lead to 19 points with 8:01 to play. Ohio Valley cut the lead to 83-72 at the 4:11 mark, but Pitt Johnstown closed out the game on a 14-1 run to seal the 24-point win.
Davis ended his night shooting 10-13 from the field, 2-4 from three-point range and 9-10 from the free-throw line. Davis also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds, dished out four assists and made five steals, while senior forward Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD) scored 19 points (8-10 FGs, 3-4 FT's) and pulled down nine rebounds. Coach Rukavina also got 14 points and five assists from junior guard William Sharpe (Johnstown, Pa.) and 10 points and eight rebounds from junior forward Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) in the win.
Pitt Johnstown shot 60.0% (39-65) from the field for the game, including a red-hot 65.5% (19-29) in the second half. The Mountain Cats also knocked down seven three-pointers and connected on 12 of their 14 free-throws. Ohio Valley shot 27-69 (39.1%) from the field, 7-28 (25.0%) from behind the three-point line and 12-18 (66.7%) from the free-throw line.
Pitt Johnstown also held a 39-33 advantage in rebounding and outscored the Fighting Scots 60-38 in the paint.
Ohio Valley's Stephen Camberis and Micah Mills each scored 13 points, while Chris Leborious (11 points) and Harris Danesi (10 points) also scored in double-figures for the Fighting Scots, who fell to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in WVIAC play.
The Mountain Cats travel to Seton Hill University for a WVIAC game on Wednesday, before returning home to host a non-conference game against California University (PA) on Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
