Mountain Cats Shutout Shepherd on Homecoming

Derik Swope (Harleysville, Pa.) scored two goals, and Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) made six saves to lead the Mountain Cat soccer team to a 3-0 Homecoming shutout victory over Shepherd (WV) University on Saturday at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. The Mountain Cats improved to 4-6-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the WVIAC.
Swope finished Jeff Linnenbach's (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) throughball from the top of the box to give Pitt-Johnstown a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute.
The Mountain Cats increased the advantage to 2-0 in the 59th minute on Swope's team-leading seventh goal of the year after he deflected Freddy Wolfe's (Fishertown, Pa.)cross behind Shepherd goalkeeper Derek Munro. Pitt-Johnstown added another insurance goal in the 84th minute when Kevin Kearney (Wexford, Pa.) found the back of the net off of assists from Clay Kubrick (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Marc Bucci (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
Neff faced 12 shots and made six saves to earn the shutout and improve to 4-6-0. Munro saw 21 Mountain Cat shots and made six saves, but gave up all three goals before leaving the game.
Shepherd dropped to 4-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats host a WVIAC match against Salem International (WV) University on Tuesday at 2 p.m., before hosting a non-conference match against California University (PA) on Thursday at 3 p.m.
