Mountain Cats Defeat Bloomsburg, 3-2, in Opener

Adam Seitz (Johnstown, Pa.), Clay Kubrick (Pittsburgh, Pa.), and Derik Swope (Harleysville, Pa.) each scored goals to help the Mountain Cat soccer team build a 3-1 first half lead en route to a 3-2 victory over Bloomsburg University in Saturday's 2011 season-opener at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
Seitz started the scoring when he finished Steve Taslov's (Coraopolis, Pa.) cross in the box 11 minutes into the match, before Pitt-Johnstown made it 2-0 in the 15th minute on Kubrick's goal.
Bloomsburg cut it to 2-1 in the 18th minute, but Swope scored on a breakaway off of Marc Bucci's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) lead pass five minutes later to give the Mountain Cats a 3-1 halftime lead.
Alex Ruhfass took a rebound off of his own penalty kick and beat Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the 68th minute to make it 3-2, but the Mountain Cats were able to hold on for the win.
Swope had a goal and an assist,and Taslov collected a pair of assists.
Cuccaro earn the win in goal after facing 20 shots and making seven saves. Kyle Pepper made three saves and surrendered all three goals for Bloomsburg.
The Mountain Cats continue a three-match home stand to start the season with non-conference matches against Washington Adventist (MD) University on Monday and California University (PA) on Friday. Both matches will kick-off at 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
