Men's Soccer Defeats Ohio Valley 2-0 on Senior Day

10/17/2009

Derik Swope (Harleysville, Pa.) and Kevin Kearney (Wexford, Pa.) scored goals just over a minute apart late in the second half to break a scoreless tie and lead the Mountain Cat men's soccer team to a 2-0 Senior Day Victory over Ohio Valley (WV) University, Saturday afternoon. Pitt-Johnstown snapped a four-match winless streak and improved to 6-9-1 overall and 4-4-1 in the WVIAC.
After a scoreless first half, Swope scored off of a rebound from Ohio Valley goalkeeper Spencer Widlicka with 10 minutes to play to give the Mountain Cats a 1-0 lead. A minute later, Kearney took Keegan Donovan's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) touch pass and beat Widlicka to set the final at 2-0.
Pitt-Johnstown, which outshot the Fighting Scots 14-12, got three saves from Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.), who earned the shutout and improved to 5-9-1. Widlicka made five saves for Ohio Valley, but surrendered both goals and suffered the loss.
With the loss, the Fighting Scots fell to 3-11-0 overall and 2-4-0 in league play.
At halftime, Pitt-Johnstown recognized this year's seniors...defender Joe Cronan (Indiana, Pa.), goalkeeper Craig Neff and forward Cory Winwood (Harwick, Pa.).
The Mountain Cats close out the 2009 regular season with road matches at WVIAC rival Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Wednesday and at Chestnut Hill College on Monday, Oct. 26.
