Men's Soccer Rolls Over Washington Adventist, 7-0

The Mountain Cat soccer team exploded for seven second half goals, including two apiece from Clay Kubrick (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Zeke Buchta (Mount Pleasant, Pa.), and Bryce DeLizio (Chandler, AZ), in a 7-0 shutout over visiting Washington Adventist (MD) University, Sunday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. The Mountain Cats improved to 2-0-0.
After a scoreless first half in a steady rain, Derik Swope (Harleysville, Pa.) opened the scoring in the 66th minute off of the first of two Buchta assists. Kubrick then finished Buchta's cross in the 71st minute to make it 2-0.
With the outcome still undecided, Mountain Cat goalkeeper Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) stopped a Washington Adventist penalty, and Buchta followed with a penalty kick goal of his own to increase the lead to 3-0.
Buchta and Kubrick netted their second goals of the day off of rebounds in the 75th and 81st minutes, before DeLizio set the final at 7-0 after he found the back of the net twice in the match's final five minutes. Adam Seitz (Johnstown,Pa.) and Swope picked up the assists on DeLizio's goals.
Cuccaro earned his first shutout of the season and improved to 2-0-0 after facing 25 shots and making 12 saves. Jake Venolia suffered the loss in goal for Washington Adventis after surrendering all seven goals. Venolia saw 26 Pitt-Johnstown shots and made 11 saves.
With the loss, the Shock slipped to 1-2-0.
The Mountain Cats wrap-up a three-match home stand to open the season against California University (PA) on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field, before traveling to Goldey Beacom (DE) College on Saturday.
