Men's Soccer

Men's Soccer Falls to #21 California (PA), 1-0

09/09/2011

Edin Sabic scored in the 37th minute to lead #21-ranked California University (PA) to a 1-0 win over the Mountain Cat soccer team in a driving rain storm, Friday afternoon at Johnstown's Point Stadium. Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 2-1-0.
Sabic's blast from the top of the box slipped through the wet gloves of Mountain Cat goalkeeper Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) with the match's lone goal with just over eight minutes remaining in the first half.
Pitt-Johnstown had a chance to even the score with two minutes left, but Derik Swope's (Harleysville, Pa.) penalty kick hit the post, and Tyler Aldinger's (Elizabethtown, Pa.) rebound was saved by Vulcan goalkeeper Charlie Dagnal to preserve the 1-0 lead.
Cuccaro faced 26 California (PA) shots and made 11 saves, but gave up the lone goal to drop to 2-1-0. Dagnal earned the shutout in goal for the Vulcans after seeing 14 Mountain Cat shots and making seven saves.
The Vulcans improved to 4-0-1.
The Mountain Cats open the WVIAC schedule with road matches at Ohio Valley (WV) University on Wednesday and at Concord (WV) University on Saturday, Sept. 17. Pitt-Johnstown's next home match is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept., 20 against Davis & Elkins (WV) College. Kick-off is set for 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
