Mountain Cats Fall 5-1 to Davis & Elkins

Wyatt Hill scored a pair of first half goals to help Davis & Elkins (WV) College race out to a 3-0 halftime lead on its way to handing the NSCAA Atlantic Region No. 5-ranked Mountain Cat soccer team a 5-1 WVIAC loss, Wednesday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Bryce DeLizio (Chandler, AZ) scored the lone goal for Pitt-Johnstown, now 4-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the WVIAC.
Hill opened the scoring on a penalty kick goal in the fifth minute, before he pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 30th minute with a unassisted goal behind Mountain Cat goalkeeper Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.). The Senators added another unassisted goal by Christopher Roberts 11 minutes later to take a 3-0 halftime advantage.
A David Nuernberg breakaway goal off of Hill's assist midway through the second half extended Davis & Elkins' lead to 4-0.
DeLizio answered for the Mountain Cats when he took a Eric Grabiak's (Scottdale, Pa.) free-kick and scored in the 79th minute.
However, that's as close as it would get. The Senators tacked on another insuance goal with six minutes to play to set the final at 5-1.
Cuccaro took the loss in net for Pitt-Johnstown after allowing four goals and making six saves in the first 70 minutes. Nolan Levine (McDonald, Pa.) played the final 20 minutes and surrendered one goal. Levine also made three saves. Moises Oseguera earned the win in goal for Davis & Elkins after allowing just one goal. Oseguera made four saves.
With the win, Davis & Elkins improved to 3-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats host a WVIAC match against West Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday as part of a Homecoming Weekend doubleheader with the women's soccer team. The Lady Cats will kick off at 2 p.m. followed by the men's match at 4 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
