Mountain Cats Fall in Overtime at Wheeling Jesuit

Zeke Buchta (Mount Pleasant, Pa.) scored two goals late in the second half to help the Mountain Cats battle back from a 2-0 deficit and force overtime at WVIAC rival Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Wednesday. However, Ignacio Fernandez scored six minutes into the extra period to give the Cardinals a 3-2 victory. Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 5-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the WVIAC.
Following a scoreless first half, Wheeling Jesuit got onto the scoreboard in the 59th minute when Gilmon took a blocked shot and beat Mountain Cat goalkeeper Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) to the far post.
Mshelbwala added a goal in the 74th minute to make it 2-0 in favor of Wheeling Jesuit.
Pitt-Johnstown cut the deficit in half on Buchta's first goal with 10 minutes to play. Buchta the took Bryce DeLizio's (Chandler, AZ) cross with just under three minutes on the clock and found the back of the net to tie the score.
However, in the 96th minute, Fernandez scored off of an assist from Andrew Hickey to give the Cardinals the win.
Cuccaro took the loss after facing 28 Wheeling Jesuit shots and making 10 saves. Cody Thompson got the win for the Cardinals. Thompson saw 10 Pitt-Johnstown shots, allowed two goals, and didn't make a save.
With the win, Wheeling Jesuit raised its over record to 4-4-1 and it's WVIAC record to 3-1-1.
The Mountain Cats host a WVIAC match against Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Point Stadium, before hosting a non-conference match against Shippensburg University on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
