Men's Soccer Opens Season With 2-0 Win Over Chestnut Hill in Pitt-Johnstown Kick-Off Classic

Senior midfielder Vince Spillane (Pittsburgh, Pa.) tallied a goal and an assist to lead Head Coach Eric Kinsey's Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cat soccer team to a 2-0 season-opening victory over Chestnut Hill College in Saturday's First Round of the 2008 Pitt-Johnstown Kick-Off Classic.
Following a scoreless first half, Pitt-Johnstown's Jason Swope (Indiana, Pa.) beat Chestnut Hill goalkeeper Duhan Malali off of assists from Arik Misler (Johnstown, Pa.) and Spillane in the 49th minute to give the Mountain Cats a 1-0 lead. Spillane then scored an unassisted goal of his own in the 65th minute to increase the lead and set the final score at 2-0.
Mountain Cat junior goalkeeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) recorded the shutout after facing seven shots and making five saves. Malali suffered the loss. Malali faced 27 Pitt-Johnstown shots and made 13 saves.
In Saturday's second game of the Kick-off Classic, #24 Davis & Elkins (WV) College got first half goals from James Kpainay and John-Carlo Rock and held off the University of the District, 2-1. Karl Stessy Moukagna notched the Firebirds' lone goal in the 18th minute.
Pitt-Johnstown will play the University of the District of Columbia in Sunday's final Round of the Kick-off Classic at noon, before Davis & Elkins and Chestnut Hill play at 2:00 p.m.
