Men's Soccer Drops WVIAC Opener at Shepherd, 3-1

Head coach Eric Kinsey's Mountain Cat soccer team fell behind 3-0 at Shepherd (WV) University and suffered a 3-1 loss in Friday's 2008 WVIAC opener. Junior forward Cory Winwood (Harwick, Pa.) tallied Pitt-Johnstown's lone goal in the 72nd minute. With the loss, the Mountain Cats dropped to 2-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the WVIAC.
Shepherd took a 1-0 halftime lead on Matt D'Amico's shot that got by Mountain Cat goalkeeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) in the 34th minute. The Rams increased the lead to 3-0 on back-to-back goals by Jeffers Frazier in the 53rd and 61st minutes, before Winwood notched his unassisted goal 12 minutes later.
Neff faced 21 Shepherd shots and made three saves, but took the loss and fell to 2-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play. Wagner Dacosta saw nine Mountain Cat shots, made one save and surrendered one goal to earn the victory.
With the win, Shepherd improved to 1-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the WVIAC.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Columbia Union (MD) College for a non-conference match on Sunday and to Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College for a WVIAC match on Saturday, September 20. The Mountain Cats will return home to host WVIAC foe University of Charleston (WV) on Tuesday, September 23 at 4:00 p.m.
