DeLizio's OT Goal Sends Mountain Cats to WVIAC Tourney

10/26/2011

Bryce DeLizio (Chandler, AZ) scored off of a rebound with just over two minutes remaining double overtime to lift the Mountain Cat soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Shepherd (WV) University, Wednesday afternoon at the Point Stadium. The win put Pitt-Johnstown at 7-7-0 overall and 5-4-0 in the WVIAC and gave the Mountain Cats a berth in next week's WVIAC Tournament.
With time winding down, DeLizio got his own rebound off of Shepherd goalkeeper Edgar-Lopez Zuniga and scored off of a bicycle kick in the 108th minute to propel Pitt-Johnstown into the conference tournament.
The Rams jumped out to a 1-0 lead on Kyle Ransom's goal 11 minutes into the second half, before the Mountain Cats tied it in the 74th minute when Derik Swope (Harleysville, Pa.) blocked Lopez-Zuniga's clearing attempt and found the back of the net.
Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned the win in goal for the Mountain Cats and evened his record at 7-7-0. Cuccaro faced 39 Shepherd shots, allowed one goal and made 12 saves. Lopez-Zuniga took the loss for the Rams after allowing both goals. Lopez-Zuniga saw 25 Pitt-Johnstown shots and made nine saves.
At halftime, Head Coach Eric Kinsey and the Pitt-Johnstown Athletic Department recognized this year's senions...Tyler Aldinger (Elizabethtown, Pa.), Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Clay Kubrick (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Josh Wentz (Greentown, Pa.), and Freddy Wolfe (Fishertown, Pa.).
With the loss, Shepherd dropped to 6-10-1 overall and 3-5-0 in conference-play.
The Mountain Cats close out the regular season with a non-conference match at Chestnut Hill College, before opening the WVIAC Tournament on Tuesday.
