Men's Soccer Rolls Over Concord, 6-1

09/18/2010

Derik Swope (Harleysville, Pa.) scored two of Pitt-Johnstown's five second half goal to help break open a 1-1 match and lead the Mountain Cat soccer team to a 6-1 WVIAC victory over Concord (WV) University, Saturday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. Pitt-Johnstown made it two straight wins and improved to 3-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the WVIAC.
Zeke Buchta (Mount Pleasant, Pa.) opened the scoring with a goal four minutes into the match off of an assist from Marc Bucci (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
Pitt-Johnstown held that lead until the 58th minute when Concord evened the score on a Garith Duncan goal.
However, it was all Mountain Cats after that. Pitt-Johnstown scored five unanswered goals over the final 32 minutes to secure the 6-1 win. Swope scored two of the goals, including one on a breakaway, while Mike Kovarik (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Kevin Kearney (Wexford, Pa.) and Clay Kubrick (Pittsburgh, Pa.) also found the back of the net.
Nolan Levine (McDonald, Pa.) and Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) split time in net for Pitt-Johnstown. Levine made three saves and surrendered just one goal in 81 minutes to improve to 3-2-0. Cuccaro played the final nine minutes and made one save. Jamie Greenwood took the loss in net for Concord after giving up the first three goals of the match. Matt Hamilton replaced Greenwood and allowed two goals in 20 minutes.
With the loss, Concord fell to 0-4-2 overall and 0-2-2 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats travel to California University (PA) for a non-conference match on Tuesday and to West Virginia Wesleyan College for a WVIAC match on Saturday, before hosting Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Wednesday, September 29 at 4 p.m.
