Buchta's Goal Leads Mountain Cats Over Wheeling Jesuit

09/29/2010

Zeke Buchta's (Mount Pleasant, Pa.) goal three minutes into the second half was the only goal of the match, but it proved to be the game-winner in a 1-0 Mountain Cat victory over WVIAC rival Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University, Wednesday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. The Mountain Cats evened their overall record at 4-4-0 and improved to 3-2-0 in conference play.
Buchta took Marc Bucci's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) throughball and beat Wheeling Jesuit goalkeeper Shane Young in the 48th minute with what proved to be the lone goal of the match.
That goal was all Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and the Mountain Cats would need. Cuccaro faced 26 Cardinals' shots and made nine saves to secure the shutout and even his record at 1-1-0.
Young saw 16 Pitt-Johnstown shots and made six saves, but suffered the loss.
Wheeling Jesuit fell to 5-4-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the WVIAC.
The Mountain Cats travel to Lincoln University on Friday and to Washington Adventist (D.C.) University on Sunday, before returning home to host nationally-ranked University of Charleston (WV) for a WVIAC match on Sunday, October 10 at 2 p.m. at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field.
