Men's Soccer Defeats #22 Davis & Elkins, 3-1

10/14/2008

Jason Swope (Indiana, Pa.) scored two second half goals to lead the Mountain Cat men's soccer team to a 3-1 comeback victory over #22-ranked Davis & Elkins (WV) College, Tuesday afternoon at the Pitt-Johnstown Soccer Field. With the win, Pitt-Johnstown improved to 7-7-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the WVIAC.
Davis & Elkins took a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute on James Kpainey's goal off of a scramble in front of the net. The Senators held that lead until the 76th minute when Shane Hejmanowski (Dillsburg, Pa.) notched his first goal of the season on Anthony Russo's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) cross. Four minutes later, Swope took Craig Neff's (Elizabethtown, Pa.) goal kick and beat Davis & Elkins' goalkeeper Timothy O'Toole to give the Mountain Cats a 2-1 lead. Swope then added an insurance goal with just 21 seconds to play when Vince Spillane (Pittsburgh, Pa.) set him up on a through ball that turned into a breakaway.
Neff, who collected his first collegiate assist off of Swope's first goal, surrendered just one goal and made nine saves to even his record at 7-7-1. O'Toole took the loss after facing nine Pitt-Johnstown shots and making three saves.
With the loss, the Senators, also ranked #3 in this week's NSACC Atlantic Region poll, slipped to 9-4-2 overall and 5-2-2 in WVIAC play.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to Ohio Valley (WV) University for a conference match on Saturday, before returning home to host Senior Day against Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Tuesday.
