Mountain Cats Win at Washington Adventist to Close Out Regular Season

After giving up a goal early the match, Pitt-Johnstown rallied for two goals, including the eventual game-winner by Josh Wentz (Greentown, Pa.) 11 minutes into the second half, in a 2-1 non-conference victory at Washington Adventist (MD) University on Thursday. Pitt-Johnstown closed out the regular season with an 8-8-0 overall record.
Washington Adventist took a 1-0 lead five minutes into the match, but the Mountain Cats answered to tie it on Zeke Buchta's (Mount Pleasant, Pa.) team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 30th minute off of assists from Derik Swope (Harleysville, Pa.) and Clay Kubrick (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
Pitt-Johnstown took the lead in the 56th minute on Wentz' unassisted goal and held on for the 2-1 victory.
Mike Cuccaro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned the victory in goal after facing 19 shots and making seven saves. Efren Guetierez saw 19 Mountain Cat shots and made five saves in the loss for Washington Adventist.
Washington Adventist's season came to an end with a 10-8-0 record.
The Mountain Cats open the 2010 WVIAC Tournament at West Virginia Wesleyan College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
