Men's Soccer Advances to WVIAC Semifinals with 2-0 Win at Wheeling Jesuit

Freshman Josh Wentz (Wallenpaupack, Pa.) and senior Jason Swope (Indiana, Pa.) each netted a goal to lift the #5-seeded Mountan Cat men's soccer team to a 2-0 victory at #4 Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University in Tuesday's First Round of the 2008 WVIAC Tournament. Pitt-Johnstown advances to the WVIAC Semifinals and will travel to top-seeded West Virginia Wesleyan College on Thursday. Kick-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
The Mountain Cats, now 10-8-1 on the year, opened the scoring 39th minute and took a 1-0 halftime lead when Wentz the back of the net off of Cory Winwood's (Harwick, Pa.) assist. Anthony Russo's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) corner kick was headed out of the box, but Winwood regained control and set up Wentz for what proved to be the game-winner. Pitt-Johnstown maintained the slim lead until Swope increased the lead and set the final score at 2-0 with a penalty kick goal in the 63rd minute.
Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) faced 18 shots and made four saves to earn the shutout. Wheeling Jesuit goalkeeper Elliott Smith saw just five shots and made two saves, but surrendered both goals and suffered the loss.
Wheeling Jesuit's season came to an end with a 9-10-1 overall record.
