Men's Soccer Holds On For 2-1 Win Over Ohio Valley

Head Coach Eric Kinsey's Mountain Cat soccer team climbed out to a 2-0 halftime lead and held on for a 2-1 home win over visiting Ohio Valley (WV) University in WVIAC action on Saturday. The Mountain Cats improved to 9-5-2 overall and 4-3-2 in the WVIAC.
Junior midfielder Nik Buchta (Mount Pleasant, Pa.) got Pitt Johnstown on the scorebaord off of assists from Phil Belcastro (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Chris Hawkins (Scottdale, Pa.) in the 14th minute. Freshman Kyle Kiralfy (Lancaster, Pa.) followed with his third goal of the season off of a pass from Ben Sera (North Huntingdon, Pa.) at the 42:00 mark to give the Mountain Cats a 2-0 halftime lead. Ohio Valley cut the lead to 2-1 in on Sam Habib's goal in the 74th minute. The Fighting Scots had some chances down the stretch, but Pitt Johnstown refused to give up another goal, and the Mountain Cats held on for the 2-1 victory.
Sophomore goakeeper Craig Neff (Elizabethtown, Pa.) faced 10 shots and had to make one save to record the win and improve to 8-4-2. Ohio Valley goalkeeper Bill Bloom saw 24 Pitt Johnstown shots and made six saves, but suffered the loss.
The Fighting Scots are now 4-10-2 oveall and 1-5-1 in WVIAC play.
The Mountain Cats will host Point Park University in a non-conference match for Senior Day on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., before finishing the regular season with another non-conference match at the University of the District of Columbia on Saturday.
