Versatile Alderson-Broaddus (WV) senior Terrell Eargle was selected as the 2009-10 WVIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Year, while Fairmont State rookie Isaac Thornton was the pick as the Freshman of the Year. West Liberty's Jim Crutchfield garnered Coach of the Year honors after leading the Hilltoppers to the league's regular season title.
Branch is Pitt-Johnstown's leading scorer at 17.3 points per game. He also leads the Mountain Cats in three-point field goals (69), steals (29) and blocked shots (21) and is third in assists with 72. In the most recent NCAA statistics, Branch ranked 56th in three-point field goal percentage (37.5%), 67th in three-point field goals per game (2.5) and 84th in scoring (17.4 ppg.). He collected his 1,000th-career point on Saturday and ranks second on Pitt-Johnstown's All-Time Three-Point Field Goals List with 181.
Grubbs, the current WVIAC Player of the Week, is second on the team in scoring (16.7 ppg.), and leads the team in rebounding (8.7 rpg.) and field goal percentage (67.2%). Grubbs' 19 blocked shots rank second on the Mountain Cat team, while his 65 assists are fourth. Nationally, Grubbs ranks fifth in field goal percentage and 49th in rebounding.
Novak was selected to the WVIAC All-Freshman Team after averaging 12.5 points, 2.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in the point-guard spot. His 57.1 field goal percentage and 82.2 free-throw percentage both rank second on the team.
The nine-player All-WVIAC first team does not feature any repeat selections from last season's senior-dominated squad. Eargle, West Virginia State's Darren Jones, West Liberty's Corey Pelle, and Davis & Elkins' Tim Turner move up from the 2008-09 All-WVIAC second team. Eargle was a first team All-WVIAC honoree following the 2007-08 season as a sophomore.
The remainder of the guard-oriented 2009-10 All-WVIAC first team consists of Jamar Board (Alderson-Broaddus), Steve Custis (Fairmont State), Mike Mathey (West Liberty), Josh Miller (WV State), and Bahaadar Russell (Charleston).
