Men's Basketball #15 in Basketball Times and #25 in NABC Preseason Poll

One WVIAC basketball team and three individuals have earned mention in the pre-season issue of Basketball Times magazine. Head coach Bob Rukavina's Pitt-Johnstown squad is ranked #15 in the publication's NCAA Division II Top 20. Alderson-Broaddus' Stan Hall, Fairmont State's Thad McFadden, and West Virginia State's Ted Scott are listed among the top 25 players in the division. In addition, the Mountain Cats were ranked #25 in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Preseason Poll... (NABC Poll)
Pitt-Johnstown returns seven lettermen, including four starters, from last season's 23-8 squad that reached the East Region semifinals. The Mountain Cats also claimed the WVIAC regular season title with a 17-3 league mark. Pitt-Johnstown will be led this season by the trio of Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) (6-6, Sr., F, 14.3 ppg), Quinton Davis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) (6-3, Sr., G, 12.7 ppg), and William Sharpe (Johnstown, Pa.) (5-10, Sr., G, 6.6 ppg, 6.1 apg).
Hall (6-3, Sr., G) earned first team All-East Region honors last season and helped Alderson-Broaddus to the WVIAC Tournament championship. The native of Canton, Ohio chipped in 17.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game for the 26-7 Battlers.
McFadden (6-2, Sr., G, Flint, MI) averaged 21.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game as he played a key role in Fairmont State's resurgence to a 19-10 record last year. The first team All-WVIAC pick also picked up the Galperin Award as the league tournament's leading scorer after pouring 62 points in a pair of games, including a 35 point, 6 rebound effort in a quarterfinal heartbreaking loss to West Virginia State.
Scott (6-2, Sr., G), a first team All-American during the 2006-07 season, will be back after for his senior year after missing much of 2007-08 due to injury. The Columbus, Ohio native led the WVIAC in scoring with 27.0 points per game two seasons ago. He tallied 29.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per contests in a pair of contests last year before losing the remainder of the season to injury.
