Sporting News and Street & Smith's Tab Marcus Tullis Preseason Honorable Mention All-American

10/10/2008

Pitt-Johnstown senior forward Marcus Tullis (Johnstown, Pa.) has been named a NCAA Division II Honorable Mention Preseason All-American by Sporting News' College Basketball Magazine and Street & Smith's, while Head Coach Bob Rukavina's Mountain Cats were listed as a team to watch by the publication.
Tullis was 2007-08 Second Team All-WVIAC selection after his Pitt-Johnstown squad claimed the conference regular season championship. The former Greater Johnstown High School star averaged 14.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per outing last year, while forming a formidable inside tandem with graduated senior Chris Gilliam (Baltimore, MD), the 2007-08 WVIAC Player of the Year.
In all, four WVIAC men's basketball teams and individuals were recognized in the Sporting News' College Basketball Magazine. Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College, Pitt-Johnstown, West Liberty State (WV) College, and West Virginia State University were listed as NCAA Division II teams to watch. West Virginia State guard Ted Scott was selected as a Second Team Preseason All-America, while Stan Hall (Alderson-Broaddus), Thad McFadden (Fairmont State (WV) University) and Tullis were honorable mention picks.
All four WVIAC squads mentioned as "possible breakthroughs" went over the 20-win mark last season. Alderson-Broaddus (26-7), Pitt-Johnstown (23-8), West Liberty (23-6), and West Virginia State (20-10) are each expected to be among the WVIAC and East Region elite during the 2008-09 season.
