No. 12 Wrestlers Post 4-0-1 Record at Super Region I Duals

After Friday's tie with No. 4 Newberry (S.C.) College, Head Coach Pat Pecora's No. 12-ranked Mountain Cat wrestlers kept the momentum going and posted four more wins, including a 31-10 win over No. 6 UNC-Pembroke, on Saturday to finish with a 5-0 record at the 2011 Super Region I Duals Pembroke, N.C. On Saturday, Pitt-Johnstown won 34 of the 40 bouts and outscored their opponents 145-22 to improve to 10-1-1 on the season.
The Mountain Cats closed out the duals with an impressive 31-10 victory over No. 6 UNC-Pembroke in its home gym. Fogle gave Pitt-Johnstown a 6-0 lead when NCAA #1-ranked Russell Weakley injury defaulted at 2:13. Ryan Link followed with 8-4 decision over Timdarius Thurston at 133 lbs. and Cawley defeated Tyquan Easton, 7-5, at 141 lbs. to make it 12-0. UNC-Pembroke got on the scoreboard with a decision at 149 lbs., but the Mountain Cats used a fall by Lundgren as the match ended at 157 lbs. to increase the advantageto 18-3. Mike Williams, ranked No. 1 in the country at 165 lbs., won 12-3 major decision over Lantz to cut the deficit t 18-7. However, Pitt-Johnstown won the next two bouts to seal the win. Makin won by major decision, and Brentzel followed with a decision at 184 lbs. to put the match out of reach at 25-7. UNC-Pembroke got a win at 197 lbs., but Dempsey ended the match with a fall at 6:44 over Seth Stewart to set the final at 31-10.
The Mountain Cats return home to host #17 Ashland (OH) University on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center, before traveling to No. 15 University of Findlay (OH) on Feb. 4.
