Volleyball Sweeps Ohio Valley

Nicole Houser (Penn Run, Pa.) had seven kills and three block solos to lead the Lady Cat volleyball team to a 3-0 non-conference sweep at Ohio Valley (WV) University on Saturday. Pitt-Johnstown earned its first win of the 2009 season to improve to 1-5.
The Lady Cats defeated Ohio Valley 25-13, 25-13, 25-9.
Along with Houser, Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.), Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.) and Sam Link (Ebensburg, Pa.) had five kills each, while Taylor King (York, Pa.) and Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) collected 14 and nine set assists, respectively. Ashley Hogan (Northern Cambria, Pa.) added two block solos and a block assist, and Irwin and Kayla Brandle (Johnstown, Pa.) each had two block assists.
Head Coach Linda Renzi also got three service aces from Petrilla and two aces from Link. Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) (13 digs), Gearhart (10 digs) and Kimberly Shubra (Penn Run, Pa.) (7 digs) led Pitt-Johnstown in digs.
With the loss, Ohio Valley fell to 0-11 overall.
The Lady Cats travel to WVIAC matches at Shepherd (WV) University on Wednesday, Glenville State (WV) College on Friday and West Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday. Pitt-Johnstown will play its first home match of the 2009 season against Penn State-Altoona on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m. in theSports Center.
