Volleyball Upsets W.Va. Wesleyan, 3-1, on Senior Night

The Lady Cat volleyball team came out Wednesday night and celebrated senior night in the Sports Center in style, by upsetting Atlantic Region No. 9 and WVIAC rival West Virginia Wesleyan College in four sets. This year's lone senior Jessica Heidenthal (Clymer, Pa.) had a game-high 13 kills and six digs to help Pitt-Johnstown improve to 12-14 overall and 8-6 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-20. The Bobcats answered with a 25-20 victory in the third set, before Pitt-Johstown put the match away with a 26-24 win in set four.
Kelsey Shanabrook (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) collected seven kills, and Tayler Vebares (Red Lion, Pa.) had six kills in the victory.
Beth Kendera (Johnstown, Pa.) finished with six block solos, while Ashley Dirado (Greensburg, Pa.) chipped-in five block solos and three block assists for the Lady Cats.
Pitt-Johnstown also got 18 set assists and four service aces from Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) and 11 assists and four digs from Nikki Oakes (Pittsburgh, Pa.).
Kelsey Kohler (Johnstown, Pa.) led the way with 21 digs, while Cassie Heatherly (Glendale, AZ) ended the night with 11 digs.
With the loss, West Virginia Wesleyan fell to 21-9 overall and 10-3 in the WVIAC.
The Lady Cats wrap-up the regular season with a non-conference match at Ohio Valley (WV) University on Saturday, before opening the 2011 WIVAC Tournament in Charleston, W.Va. on Nov. 10.
