Volleyball Defeats Ohio Valley to Close Out Regular Season

Jessica Heidenthal (Clymer, Pa.) had 15 kills to help the Lady Cat volleyball team close out the 2011 regular season with a 25-20, 25-27, 25-16, 25-22 non-conference victory at Ohio Valley (WV) University on Saturday. Pitt-Johntown has won six of its last seven matches and improved to 13-14 on the season.
Along with Heidenthal, Karen Schmidt (Boswell, Pa.) had eight kills and 16 digs, while Tayler Vebares (Red Lion, Pa.) added eight kills and five block assists. Beth Kendera (Johnstown, Pa.) had seven kills, and Ashley Dirado (Greensburg, Pa.) finished with six block assists for the Lady Cats.
Kayla Petrilla (Johnstown, Pa.) led Pitt-Johnstown with 22 set assists, and Nikki Oakes (Pittsburgh, Pa.) chipped in 17 assists. Petrilla and Oakes also had nine digs and three service aces apiece.
Kelsey Kohler (Johnstown, Pa.) paced the Lady Cats with 21 digs. Cassie Heatherly (Glendale, AZ) chipped-in eight digs in the win.
With the loss, Ohio Valley fell to 9-24 on the year.
The Lady Cats travel to Charleston, W.Va. on Thursday for the 2011 WVIAC Volleyball Tournament.
