#13 Wrestlers Bounce Back With Two Wins at Regional Duals

Head Coach Pat Pecora's 13th-ranked Mountain Cat wrestlers bounced back from Friday's tough loss to Newberry (S.C.) College with a 37-3 victory over American International (MA) College and a 28-11 win over UNC-Pembroke to close out the 2012 Super Region Duals, Saturday afternoon in the Sports Center. Pitt-Johnstown is now 7-2 on the year.
The Mountain Cats closed out the Super Region Duals with a 28-11 win over UNC-Pembroke. A forfeit win by Fogle in the first match put Pitt-Johnstown up 6-0. Ryan Link defeated Adonis Wright 10-3 at 133 lbs to make it 9-0, but UNC-Pembroke got a technical fall from Daniel Ownbey over Doug Maiorana (Lewisburg, Pa.) at 5:17 to cut it to 9-5. Nathan Link answered for the Mountain Cats with an 8-6 win over Kristoff Thomas at 149 lbs, and Lundgren scored a 10-1 major decision to extend the lead to 16-5 at the midway point. A decision victory by UNC-Pembroke's fourth-ranked Mike Williams at 165 lbs. made it 16-8, but Shirey got the points back for the Mountain Cats with a slim 4-3 win at 174 lbs. Another win by Lantz at 184 lbs. increased the Pitt-Johnstown lead to 22-8 and sealed the victory. Moore won by forfeit at 197 lbs., before UNC-Pembroke earned a win by decision at heavyweight to set the final at 28-11.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to No. 18 Ashland (OH) University on Friday and to Lake Erie (OH) College on Saturday, before hosting Gannon University on Wednesday, February 1 at 7 p.m in the Sports Center.
