No. 3 Wrestlers Post 2-2 Record at East Coast Duals

Head Coach Pat Pecora's No. 3-ranked Mountain Cat bounced back from a tough loss to No. 2 Newberry on Friday with a solid 26-6 victory over Limestone (S.C.) College, Saturday morning. However, UNC-Pembroke opened-up a 21-10 lead and held on to upset Pitt-Johnstown, 27-13, to close out Saturday's 2010 East Coast Duals in Newberry, S.C. The Moountain Cats, 2-2 at the Duals, is now 9-2 overall.
Pitt-Johnstown wrapped-up the Duals with a 27-13 setback to East Region No. 8 UNC-Pembroke. For the fourth straight match, the Mountain Cats suffered a loss at 125 lbs. This time, East Region No. 4 Russell Weakley gave UNC-Pembroke a 6-0 lead by pinning Link at 1:52. Valko responded again with a 12-1 major decision over Timdarious Thurston at 133 lbs. to make it 6-4, before Whetstone (141 lbs.) pinned Matthew Sharp at 2:13 to give Pitt-Johnstown a 10-4 lead. However, UNC-Pembroke won six of the last seven matches, including the next four, to build a 21-10 lead. McIntyre (149 lbs.) and Lundgren (157 lbs.) lost by decision. Rashaad Saunders upset NCAA No. 3 Keane 7-5, to make it 15-10, and NCAA No. 5 J.J. Davis pinned Makin at 4:47 at 174 lbs. Walsh earned a 12-6 decision over John Sturrock at 184 lbs. to account for Pitt-Johnstown's last win, before UNC-Pembroke scored decision wins at 197 lbs. and heavyweight to pull off the upset and set the final at 27-13.
The Mountain Cats travel to Ashland (OH) University on January 29, before hosting Division I Clarion University on Friday, February 5 at 7 p.m. in the Sports Center.
