Volleyball Defeats West Liberty State For 8th Straight Win

Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) had 14 kills and eight block assists to lead the Lady Cat volleyball team to hard-fought 3-1 non-conference victory at West Liberty State (WV) College, Wedesday night. Pitt-Johnstown has won eight straight matches and improved to 15-6 on the season.
The Lady Cats dealt the Hilltoppers a 25-21, 25-27, 28-26 and 26-24
Taylor Hrescak (Johnstown, Pa.) collected 12 kills, and Kelly Miller (Stoystown, Pa.) added 10 kills, while Sierra Steele (Windber, Pa.) had five block assists. Head coach Linda Renzi also got 31 assists from Merissa Larrew (Irwin, Pa.) and 17 kills and three service aces from Taylor King (York, Pa.). Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.) and Katie Shadron (Ligonier, Pa.) led the Lady Cats with 26 and 21 digs, respectively in the victory.
With the loss, West Liberty State fell to 3-19 on the year.
Pitt-Johnstown travels to the Shepherd (WV) University Crossover Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Lady Cats will return home to host Fairmont State (WV) University on Thursday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
