Volleyball Loses in Four Games to Wheeling Jesuit

Kristin Irwin (Bellefonte, Pa.) and Megan Lasut (Central City, Pa.) each had eight kills, but the Pitt Johnstown women's volleyball team fell three-games-to-one to visiting Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University in a WVIAC conference match Tuesday night in the Sports Center. With the loss, Pitt Johnstown dropped to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in the WVIAC.
Head Coach Linda Renzi's Lady Cats battled back 24-30 and 25-30 losses to start the match with a 30-23 win in game three. However, the Cardinals clinched the match with a 30-25 win in game four.
Along with her eight kills, Lasut added four block assists, while middle hitter Casey Jo Ritenour (Latrobe, Pa.) had a pair of block solos and three block assists. Merissa Larrew (Irwin, Pa.) led the Lady Cats with 21 set assists. Kim Shubra (Penn Run, Pa.) and Abby Gearhart (Elton, Pa.) each collected 10 digs, and Katie Shadron (Ligonier, Pa.) chipped in nine digs in the loss.
Wheeling Jesuit evened its overall record at 8-8 and improved to 4-0 in the WVIAC.
Pitt Johnstown travels to Glenville State (WV) College on Friday and to Ohio Valley (WV) University on Saturday for a pair of conference matches. The Lady Cats return home to host West Liberty State (WV) College on Wednesday, September 26 at 7:00 p.m. in the Sports Center.
